Description

Looking for a knowledge and communication manager to work for the Client Organisation (High Speed Two Ltd) responsible for the New High-Speed Rail project in the UK, this is a unique opportunity to make a difference to the industry by enabling HS2 to capture and share learning and good practice aimed at making improvements not just for HS2 but the whole Construction & Infrastructure industry.  Incredibly interesting and varied role where you will systematically detail the learning legacy for this once in a lifetime project and then communicate this across HS2 and the whole industry.

 

Open to candidates with knowledge & communication skills/experience who work within the Infrastructure & Construction sector open to a range of backgrounds - engineering, transport, architectural, environmental, design, H&S etc.  Could be a current knowledge or comms manager working for client, contractor, consultant, trade body, university, research institution etc.  Also open to Engineers, trainers, project managers, business improvement, stakeholder managers etc whom might of have interest and some experience in this area.

 

The role is 50:50 split between Knowledge management and communication management.  The successful candidate role it to firstly gather learnings and insights from across the industry who are working across the High Speed Two programme.  Generating contributions through launching bespoke challenges and competitions designed to generate submission of technical lessons learned. Your role as knowledge manager will be to review the abstracts and ensure the contributions are peer review (reviewed by experts) to ensure this is a unique lessons learnt & have academic accuracy.

 

The second half of the role is Communication Management - share the lesson learnt / insight with the rest of the industry through a range of mediums – website, press releases, Major Project Association, HS2 Podcast, industry partners, Dft & Dft companies etc.  And of course, disseminated within HS2 to ensure the lesson learnt is indeed captured and realised.

 

Working Situation

The office location is London, Euston or Birmingham and they operate a flexible hybrid working model working around 2 days a week from the office.  Overall, this is a very flexible modern employer who cares about delivery not where you deliver from, however, if you wish to be based front the office more you can.

 

Salary

Birmingham                  £50 – 52,152 + pen (6:12) + 25 hols 

London                         £50 – 56,464 + pen (6:12) + 25 hols 

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Leading the implementation and continual development of the Learning Legacy programme across the organisation
  • Engaging with knowledge theme leads, topic champions and other learning legacy sources, both in HS2 and the supply chain, for the generation of learning legacy content
  • Maintaining a schedule of planned learning legacy content updates and associated timelines. This includes the management of bespoke challenges and competitions designed to generate the submission of technical lessons learned from across HS2 and its supply chain
  • Reviewing draft learning legacy content and providing constructive feedback to authors, supported by a technical editor as required
  • Managing the approval and publishing process with relevant colleagues from the External Affairs Directorate
  • Editing, formatting and redacting Learning Legacy documents, where necessary, to enable publication
  • Leading the development and day-to-day management of the Learning Legacy website working closely with the Digital Media and Content team
  • Uploading and publishing content on the learning legacy website, and working with wider colleagues to promote its availability – across HS2, its supply chain and the wider industry  
  • Working with the Major Projects Association to surface HS2 Learning Legacy content in the Major Projects Knowledge Hub.
  • Establishing and maintaining the Learning Legacy Ambassador programme for connecting learning legacy authors to industry partner events
  • Developing/maintaining the relationships with industry partners for dissemination events, peer review and publications
  • Working with the wider events team to plan and deliver a programme of industry-facing learning legacy events
  • Supporting the Technical Papers Competition including Secretariat to the Technical Review Panel
  • Developing a communications plan with the internal and external communications teams to generate engagement with the learning legacy both internally and externally, while raising the profile of HS2’s learning legacy in the industry

 

The Person:

  • Experience as Knowledge Manager, Communication Manager, Business Improvement Manager, PM, Stakeholder Manager. Business Manager, engineer etc ideally from within and construction/engineering or similar environment.
  • Knowledge management skills, including the ability to effectively assess & communicate complex information.
  • Likely to be degree qualified.
  • Editorial Skills, ability to review and edit complex information and summarise key points articulatory.
  • Communication skills with an ability to works with all levels of an organisation and build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders & external partners
