Are you a Quality Manager who has experience working on complex infrastructure delivery programmes – Rail, Nuclear, Airports, Civils, Rail Systems, Power Stations, Water, Construction, aerospace? and want to work on a pivotal role within the UK’s largest infrastructure project.
The Client organisation who are building and then operating UK’s High Speed Rail network, High Speed Two, are looking for 3 Quality Managers. The role provides leadership and support on Quality to HS2’s delivery teams & the HS2 supply chain - integrated project team, across the design & build construction projects – 4 Major Civils & 4 New Stations and 14 manufacture and supply Rail System Contracts. Instilling a right first-time ethos to support the safe, efficient, and complaint delivery of projects.
You will be working on a mixture of the contracts below:
- £2 - 6bn main works design & build civil engineering contracts - tunnels, embankments, bridges, viaducts
- £500 - 2bn New Build of Major Stations
- £200 - 1bn - Rail Systems manufacture & supply - Signalling, telecoms, OHL, power, tracks..
Working with the Heads of Quality for the Principal Contractors on each contract, you are providing the client view – you will operate at macro level – not involved in specific project quality matters (NCR’s) – this is ensuring that the self-assuring principal contractor have the right process in place to manage quality properly. Focusing on trend analysis of quality performance reports to drive improvements.
Key Duties will include:
- Preparation and presentation of Quality management information for senior business leaders
- Approval of top-level project quality plans
- Preparating and trend analysis of quality performance reports
- Driving Structured problem solving and process, performance and efficiency and compliance improvement opportunities.
The role demands minimum of 5 years of complex design & build major project quality management working as clients, consultant or main contractor from a Construction/Civils or System Engineering background. Open to Rail and infrastructure (Construction) experience but will also manufacture and supply – aerospace, rail systems etc.
Key Experience
- Familiarity with NEC3 Contract environment, accustomed to managing or deploying work within NEC3 ECC quality requirements (contractually aware)
- Accustomed to a complex, very high-volume project documentation and deliverables management environment
- Quality Manager working on large complex construction design & build or manufacture and supply contracts (rail systems, aerospace).
- Ideally lead auditor, experience at planning and executing external audits of tier 1 contractors.
- Suitably education background to level 5 or above with additional competencies relating to quality management e.g. technical diploma or degree, Chartered member of the CQI – or have experience to compensate.
- Ability to work with high-level data flows, extracting insights and presenting actionable recommendations to senior leadership
Work Situation
2 of the roles will be based from Birmingham and 1 from London Euston, they operate a flexible hybrid working model working 2-3 days a week from the office (50%). They will also be some travel to the site offices of the construction sites. Overall this is a very flexible modern employer who cares about delivery not where you deliver from, however, if you wish to be based front the office more you can.
Birmingham £55 – 61,140 + Pen (6:12) + 25 hols (potentially £64,197)
London £60 – 65,580 + Pen (6:12) + 25 hols (potentially £68,859)
Candidate Competencies
Skills:
- Ability to produce and present documents and reports to a variety of audiences, including internal stakeholders at various levels in the organisation
- Influencing and negotiation skills – including influencing internal and external stakeholders without direct authority
- Ability to interpret management system standards for application to infrastructure projects.
- Project management skills - the ability to take a project remit and develop project content and technical interventions to deliver defined outcomes.
- Ability to manage and prioritise own workload, to deliver reports and assurances to agreed deadlines
Knowledge:
- Educated to degree, HND or HNC level (or an equivalent), preferably in an engineering or construction related subject.
- Knowledge of audit and assurance processes and 3 lines of defence.
- Successfully completed an IRCA approved ISO 9001 Lead Auditor course.
- Understanding the relationship between project delivery risk, quality management and assurance.
Type of experience:
- Developing and reporting against quality performance measurements.
- Experience of delivering projects and initiatives with proven record of business improvement.
- Experience of delivering operational audits.
- Experience of analysing risk information and the development of risk actions.
- Experience in in creating effective quality performance reports that are the basis for management decisions
- Experience of analysing data and themes of product quality e.g. NCRs, Defects, and identifying trends, root causes and preventative actions.
