Looking for an experienced Logistics Manager who has experience overseeing, Project Managing, large multi-site logistic operations working on the largest construction projects in Europe ‘High Speed Two, must have superb communication and stakeholder management skills, Construction experience useful but not essential, open to other industries - construction, military, events, logistics, automotive etc. The role project manages & overseas and assures vehicle movements across 50 construction sites representing thousands of vehicle movements every week.
The construction of HS2 Construction will generate extensive volumes of excavated materials and use large quantities and numbers of bulk materials and prefabricated units. In addition, construction activities will require the use of plant of various sizes and weights. The movement of plant, materials and prefab units to and from site will be managed to ensure efficiencies within the contractual and geographic areas of the project. To maximise the efficiencies in the logistics approach and to mitigate cost, programme and environmental risk, a coordinated strategy across the project will be implemented.
The Logistics Team is responsible for enabling the safe, cost-effective, sustainable and compliant delivery of HS2 through the provision of industry-leading logistics guidance, integrated planning and assurance. Managing and collaborating with 2 multibillion-pound main works civils joint ventures –your role is to ensure the contractors meet industry standards of health and safety, and support the required project delivery outcomes, namely, efficiency, quality, environmental impact, Undertakings and Assurance obligations.
The Area Logistics Manager will be accountable for providing specialist Logistic support and expertise at each stage of the construction process.
Influence, support and hold accountable the Contractor Logistic Lead to implementation of their Logistic Strategy. Establish and maintain key external stakeholder relationships with other Government and industry bodies such as Local Authority, DVSA, RSSB, CILT, CLOCS. Etc.
Ability to form good working relationships and have strong influencing skills is a key skill of the role – the position does not scrutinise every vehicle movement – it is an overseeing role, hence CPC & industry experience not essential, ensuring the contractors meet their obligations and influence them to make improvements and where possible work with the other Joint Ventures.
Working Situation – Hybrid
Role covers Vehicle movements across 50 sites between Bicester & Maple Cross -covering Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire & northwest M25. Hybrid working – expectation is to work 5/6 days a fortnight from site offices throughout area and the rest of the time at home.

Candidate Criteria
Senior Logistics professional with experience on large multi-site logistic operations with hundreds if not thousand of vehicle movements, ideally have construction experience although open to military, event, automotive, transportation or similar logistic background. Knowledge of health & Safety – ability to spot logistic trends and problem solve from large amounts of data.
Superb communication and stakeholder management skills – with excellent influencing skills and ability to encourage collaborative working in complex construction project environment.
Skills:
- Proven track record gained within a construction and/or logistics environment with a large proportion of “on-site” operations;
- Demonstrable ability to work in a multi-skilled environment;
- Ability to communicate and interface at all levels including presentations and report writing;
- Demonstrable expertise using data for analysis and reporting purposes;
- Ability to effectively manage own diary and work without close supervision but equally at home in a team environment.
- Conflict Management - Read situations quickly; good at focused listening; can find common ground and get cooperation and constructive outcomes with minimum noise.
- Decision Quality - Gathering and synthesising information, identifying options and applying sound judgement based on logic and reason, making use of a variety of analytical approaches to provide relevant information to suppliers, stakeholders and decision makers using key facts and data.
- Clear Direction - Defining and prioritising objectives, analysing inputs, assessing and challenging data, defining strategies and supporting rationales.
