Unique Opportunity for a Senior Ecologist to be responsible for the management, maintenance & monitoring of Ecology, especially protected speciesover 3500 hectares of newly created green landscape (grasslands & woodlands) with over 7 million trees planted, this will become one of the largest natural landscapes ever created.
Have you worked as an Ecologist? Been involved in the monitoring and management of ecology including protected species?
Have you supported ecological licence compliance or protected species mitigation and worked with regulatory bodies such as Natural England?
Looking for an Ecologist to become a Senior Ecology Asset Manager working for the client organisation on the High Speed Two programme working within the operations & maintenance department. Part of High Speed Two legacy is to create 33 square kilometres of new wildlife habitats along the HS2 route. Very soon a 5-year contract will be awarded to an environmental and ecology monitoring consultancy, the Senior Ecology Asset Manager will ensure this is managed correctly in line with technical standards, Environmental minimum standards and compliance of ecological licences. HS2 has a legal requirement to mitigate its environmental effects, and the effective management of Ecology and ecological licence compliance is a huge priority.
The Ecology Asset manager will act as the subject matter expert for Ecology requirements and interventions and will support the monitoring and management of works being undertaken by the HS2 ecology contractors on site.
Work Situation – Hybrid
The office location is London, Birmingham or you can base yourself from any of the Site offices along the line of route (your choice) they operate a flexible hybrid working model where you’ll be working 2/3 days a week from the site or office.
Birmingham £55,000 – 61,140 + Pen 12% + health + 25 days (potentially £64,197)
London £60 – 65,580 + Pen 12% + health + 25 days (potentially 68,859)
Site locations Across the line of route from Birmingham to London – Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire Oxfordshire & west midlands
Key experience:
- Ecologist or environmental professional with protected species licence or mitigation experience
- Familiarity with stakeholder engagement – particularly Natural England
- Comfortable inspecting, reporting and tracking ecological asset conditions
- Experience on major infrastructure or complex ecological schemes preferred, however, still interested in Ecology experience gained in – woodlands, rural estates, national parks etc
This role suits someone with strong ecological field experience who understands what’s needed to monitor and maintain habitats, ensuring licence conditions and stakeholder obligations (e.g., Natural England) are fully met. Interested to talk to ecologists who have managed the monitoring and management of Ecology on a large natural habitat.
You’ll be inspecting habitats, supporting compliance reporting, and working closely with both contractors and internal stakeholders to make sure biodiversity and mitigation goals are being delivered as intended.
